Berlin's Ultimate Shopping Guide part I - Bergman Kiez

After being a native Berliner for 6 months, I feel it's my duty to give a thurough report on Berlin's best shopping. Why waste anymore time? Let's begin!

Before you head out shopping in Germany's capital, you should be aware of that even if you know your way around, finding what you're looking for may take a while. Berlin's shopping districs are very spread out, and the stores often not lined up in the American Mall fashion. However, finding a unique piece of clothing to the right price is not all that hard. Here's a list of stores, dictricts and streets you'll want to check out in finding just that.

Bergman Kiez
Getting there – U-Bahn - U7 Mehringdamm
Located in the heart of Kreuzberg, Berman Kiez, or Bergman Quarter harboures some of Berlin's coolest clothing stores.

One is: Faster Pussycat. At Faster Pussycat, you'll find clothes from Ben Sherman, bags and clothing from Skunk Funk, and lots of other clothing from Encore. They've even got Wigs!
Pricing? Not too high. Be prepared to pay €60 for a polo shirt, €70 for shoes, €40 for bags. I'm not sure about the wigs though…

Taking a left on to Bergman Straße, will take you to stores as Plaste+Elaste, a good store when you're looking for punk apparel, Bag-Age a store dedicated completely to bags (duh) and various crappy New Age stores. Two of my personal favourites are:

Treib Stoff, Mecca for those in love with Chuck Taylor shoes. The store also sells shoes from Vans and Underground England. Sadly, the clothes don't match the quality of the shoes. If you're lucky, you might stumble across a second hand T-Shirt that reads "iClass World Tour 1988" or "Nascar". If your out looking for a I've-been-to-Berlin-but-I'm-not-gonna-look-like-a-totaly-geeky-tourist T-Shirt, the store sells shirts with "Kreuzberg" logos, manufactured by Hanes at the resonable price of €10.
Pricing? Affordable. Chuck Taylor's cost from €60 up to €80, and Vans are a bit cheaper. Clothing is very resonable.

été clothing, a surf, skate* and snow** shop. This is my favourite store in Bergmanstraße. Here, you'll find a vast variety of clothing, skateboards, bags, accessories, swimwear, skateboards and shoes from brand such as We are the Superlative Conspiracy(go Sweden!), Billabong, DC Shoes, Elements, Roxy and many more. The store staff is easy-going, and very helpful. If you're shopping in Berlin, this is a must! Girls! Check out the Roxy bags - there hot!
Pricing? A bit more pricy than other stores, but you get what you pay for. A long sleved sweater goes for about €70, and shoes from €50 and up.
